By Anonymous Austin, TX August 15, 2004 -- FantasyFlyFish.com, a web site providing fly fishing enthusiasts with unique, online fishing contests from anywhere in the U.S., launches this week.
The brainchild of two recent graduates of Texas Tech University, FantasyFlyFish.com went from an idea to a web-based business in just 3 months for it’s two creators, Gregg Frasure and Benton Carter from Austin, both avid fly fisherman.
“As the idea of offering contests for fly fisherman grew, everyone we talked to said it sounded like a winner,” explains co-counder Gregg Frasure. “The Internet makes this possible, and a lot of fun for our members, no matter what state they live in.”
Members earn points through submitting photos of fish they catch. Monthly contests are judged with winners receiving valuable gift cards from fishing equipment retailers. Additionally, an ‘Angler of the Year’ prize will be awarded to the FantasyFlyFish.com member who accumulates the most points during that calendar year.
“They key to making our contests work is our ‘Fantasy Pass’, says Frasure. “This numbered membership card is sent to each new member, and must appear in any photos submitted by our members. Each month, our winner’s picture is placed in the Winners Gallery on our web site. All other photos are posted in our photo gallery.”
While the fishing competitions and prizes are the unique benefits of a membership at FantasyFlyFish.com, members also enjoy a host of other features and benefits. This includes fishing-action videos, a discussion forum, updates on conservation efforts, photo galleries, weather forecasts and classified ads are all available to members.
“Successful, web-based companies create a sense of community for people with similar interests,” notes co-founder Benton Carter. “We know that, as with other sports, fly fishing enthusiasts are passionate about anything related to fly fishing. We are simply tapping into that passion, and offering a unique competition that our members could not otherwise enjoy. We think it will be a lot of fun!”
Memberships at FantasyFlyFish.com can be purchased for one month, 6 months or 1 year. A free trial is also available at www.fantasyflyfish.com.
